KJHK Spring Programming Begins Monday, January 12

At 12:01am on January 12, KJHK's spring programming begins. Featuring many of your favorite DJs, some exciting new voices, and the return of all the special programming you know and love, this semester is shaping up to be a blast.

Tune into expanded sports coverage, like broadcasts of away games like KU vs. Iowa and home basketball pre-game shows half an hour prior to tip-off, as well as an additional sports talk program on Fridays.

Witness the return of special programs like Bluesology (back after a year-long hiatus), and the continuation of popular favorites like the Rio Deal, Sunglasses After Dark, Folk Yourself, Jam Sandwich, and Club Soda. Alternative Flashback, Hip Hop Hyp, and Malicious Intent all return with new hosts to mix things up and bring excitement to your radio dial.

Tune in, turn it up, and rock out this semester to KJHK 90.7FM, your sound alternative.

To the Family, Friends, and Fans of KJHK,

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

We here at KJHK hope that your holiday season is full of good times, good friends, and of course, good radio - which is where we come in. Even during the holidays, our student volunteers do what few college stations can; KJHK plays on through winter break, into the early morning hours; you can tune in to 90.7 FM on your dial or listen live at www.kjhk.org and hear great music, news, sports, and special programming year-round!

KJHK is a special kind of place at KU, where students grow with their fellow members as both friends and professional colleagues in an unique and organic broadcasting experience. With this in mind, we want to share with you what's next for KJHK, what we're up to, and how you can help the station and future generations of KU students.

OUR BIG PLANS

For over 25 years, KJHK has broadcasted from the Sudler Annex, a former carriage house lovingly known to us as 'The Shack'. While we love and cherish the history this space holds for KJHK, this location has been worn thin, lacking the space and flexibility that our ever-expanding staff and programming requires. That is why, in the Spring of 2009, we will begin to move our station to new state-of-the-art broadcast facilities, to be constructed on the 3rd floor of the Kansas Union.  These new broadcast studios, designed in part by the students of KJHK, will be constructed to fit the diverse needs of our organization. The new space will host all of the resources that our current mountaintop facility does, but will bring KJHK, its students, and its style of broadcast education into the 21st century.

The new KJHK studios will be a flagship for college radio, incorporating three different studios complete with multi-DJ/host setups, an abundance of storage space, the official launch of KJHK's Digital Audio Archive, a visitor-friendly, student-staffed front office, and something we've never had; a highly visible location where students can come together to continue to make great radio. This is a monumental leap for any radio station, but almost unheard of in the realm of college stations. We are thrilled to continue our programming in this new space, and seek your help in making the next chapter in KJHK's history even better.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

As we say an emotional good-bye to the station KJHK students have called home for decades, we'll be thinking of the opportunities and experiences that our new facility will bring. While we've secured necessary funding for this ambitious relocation, KJHK still needs the help of its biggest fans to maintain a solid future for student-run radio at KU. At this time of giving and sharing, the students of KJHK ask you to consider making a small gift to the station that does so much for KU and Lawrence year after year.

Consider how KJHK has created enriching and meaningful experiences for you, your family, or your friends. Any support that you can offer to help grow KJHK's future radio legacy would be greatly appreciated. For more information, or to contribute to KJHK, you can visit www.kjhk.org/fundraising to show your support for the future of student-run radio at the University of Kansas.

Thank you, please keep listening, and happy holidays!
